My Best Friend Chuck
Chuck, chuck, bo buck, bonana fana fo f… Well, that’s kind of how my friendship with Chuck is. It’s as old as time, as reliable as a rhyme, and as crazy as how that song never ended.
Our friendship started long before we met. I was online, bored out of my head, and I was in an online chat room, chatting away and using my words to play with people’s heads with the Queen’s English. There, I bumped into someone who played along with me; someone who shared my wit, sense of humor, views of reality, and someone to play faux British with.
We kept our online friendship for years, not knowing who each other was… until one fateful day…
I was introduced to Chuck, who owned a computer shop back then. Being the British Idiot he was, he projected an air of nobility and practically ignored my friends and me.
Through the course of time, we got closer to each other. Our bond of friendship was formed and strengthened because of errands. If I had errands to run, I’d tag him along and provide a respite from his, then, batty life. Should it be the other way around, he would provide me with a way to escape my boredom and my insane life.
We shared joy and laughter, tears and pain. I guess what strengthened our bond was the way we viewed life and how we differentiated right from wrong. Through all the strife, intrigue, crazy out of town trips, and supernatural encounters, we held on.
I learned so many things from Chuck. He taught me business practices and business ethics. I learned to live the humble life and I learned to save lives. Should I have not met my best friend in the whole world, I would have already gone crazy and caved in on life’s challenges. He is the person I turn to when I have problems and he is, almost always, the first person I call to share newfound joys in my life. If I were to detail each and every misadventures we’ve had, I’d probably fill a book as thick as all the volumes of Encyclopedia Brittanica.
Tomorrow, he leaves for another country for better opportunities. He has asked me to follow in his footsteps because he believes I will make it big there. That’s Chuck for you. He always believes in people, no matter how small they seem to the rest of the world.
Chuck, I will definitely make major adjustments, now that you’re not a short drive away. I shall miss you, but I shall do my best to follow in the land of promise. Thank you for being my best friend.
